Sunset Plaza Mall

On Monday, January 20th, 2025 (the same day Elon Musk did a nazi salute twice at Trump's inauguration), my family took a trip to northeast Nebraska to kill some time and visit some places. Naturally, this turned out to be the coldest day we've had yet, so we cut some stops from the trip. However, we still visited a mall I've been meaning to for a while: the Sunset Plaza Mall in Norfolk, NE.

Our trip started by eating at the Two Rivers Saloon in Niobrara. The place looks better than the food tastes, as I was left with the impression of mediocrity from my burger and fries. Afterwards, we swung by a plot of land someone in the family used to own, and took the trip down to Norfolk.

Our first stop in town was an e-cycle business to pick up a floppy drive. The person who works there told me they make the 80 mile trip to Sioux City when they need to go to a mall, which isn't a good sign of life. They also informed me that construction of the future TJ Maxx has stalled, thanks to a lack of communication and payment.

My impression with this mall is that it's quiet. Chappell Roan was playing through the best sounding overhead speakers I've heard in a mall, but the only people there to appreciate "Good Luck, Babe!" were a few shoppers and under a dozen walkers. Despite the healthy anchor situation (excluding TJ Maxx), the inside is about half empty. The typical staples like Maurices, Buckle, and Bath & Body Works operate here, along with some local stores. The food court consists of a Chinese food stand, an American restaurant, a closed Mexican food stand, and a Pretzelmaker. Even though the time I visited wasn't great for a mall, I don't imagine it gets much busier on the weekend.

Glass doors are below the 80's sign welcoming you to the food court, and a green arched awning.
